ABOUT THIS WEBSITE
This website consists of information on all the different schemes and tropes we have learned this year, making it very useful in the aid for students in memorizing, and more importantly, learning how to utilize schemes and tropes in writing or spoken language. On this Web site you will find a fairly large list of schemes and tropes, and a few examples of how each scheme or trope is utilized in rhetoric and language. I have divided the schemes and tropes into very basic categories to help students learn and memorize them easier. These terms represent the artful deviations from ordinary expression that authors use to communicate effectively. Writing is a major aspect in high school, college, and in our careers so it is crucial that students are introduced to unique writing styles and learn about the different rhetoric styles that will set their writings apart from others. It is more important to understand how each of these techniques contributes to rhetorical effect and the development of meaning rather than to just memorize the names and their definitions. Often times students simply memorize the DEFINITIONS of schemes and tropes and do not actually understand how to use them. With the AP Language and Composition exam approaching, I felt as if it would be beneficial to create a Web site to help others learn and refresh their memories about schemes and tropes.
